SHIPPING FRANCHISE SCHEME
Background
The Shipping Franchise Scheme (SFS) was established by the SVT Government in 1996 to provide the traveling public with safe, clean, regular shipping service to uneconomical routes in the Maritime Provinces; and
- To develop and encourage trade and economic activities in the islands so as to increase the viability of the shipping companies;
- To improve the quality and standards of the ships available in terms of safety and comfort for the traveling public;
- To improve the viability of the shipping industry to such an extent that it could eventually exist without the need for the Shipping Franchise Scheme.
